Parajacks Herdsires

Parajacks Alpacas is striving to produce alpacas that maintain dense, fine, uniform fibre on a strong square frame. We keep only our best machos as herdsires.

What is an alpaca?

Alpacas naturally inhabit the High Andes in the South American countries of Peru, Bolivia and Chile. These animals are gentle, graceful, intelligent and they produce one of the finest fibres. After being domesticated 7,000 years ago, Alpacas became cherished for their fleece and were a luxury only available to royalty.

There are two types or breeds of alpaca: Huacaya and Suri. The Huacaya, the most common alpaca breed, has crimped fleece and is fluffly in appearance. The Suri on the other hand has straight, lustrous, fine fleece.

As a result of their prized and luxurious fibre, alpacas have become an excellent investment opportunity. Comparable to cashmere, the fleece is prized for its lightweight, fineness, lustre and warmth. Alpacas are also friendly companion and show animals. Their loveable nature and endearing personalities make them a pleasure to be around.
